JanetJanet has a Masters degree in Public Policy and Development Management, but has been in the development field for the past 24 years. Janet was instrumental in development of the White Paper for Social Welfare, and has made it her responsibility to shape the transformation agenda for this sector.

Her position as Chief Director Gauteng, allowed her to provide strategic leadership, not only to the Province but nationally.  She was responsible for improving social services delivery, and transforming both the state and NGO sector from a “welfarist” to a developmental and sustainable provider of services.  Her experience in this sector has not only exposed her to the wide range of development issues, but it has demanded key competencies, such as good policy writing and analysis, development of models that suit the South African context, the management of change, as well as mentoring and coaching emerging managers to become leaders within the public service.

Since leaving the public service, Janet has consulted with a number of management consulting firms such as Mathew Nel and Associates, Black Dragon, Leadership Action and Alignment and Avalanche Business Solutions. Through these associations, she has development in-depth knowledge and skills in Human resource Management, Organisational behaviour and Leadership training.   Janet is also a business coach.

Janet has good facilitation, team and capacity building skills. Being a Social Worker prior to our democracy has equipped Janet with good mobilization and communication skills. She has the ability to network both within the government, between spheres of government and with other services providers such as NGO’s, as well as the Private sector.
